January Full Wolf Moon

Holy shit everyone! Seriously the first full moon of the new year and the new decade includes a lunar eclipse. Unfortunately, most of North America will not get to witness the eclipse but it is happening nonetheless. Also, this full moon is in Cancer. What does this all mean you ask? Let's start with the basics of full moon energy and go from there.

Full Moons are a great time to clean up and get rid of things. These things can be people, jobs, energies, or thought patterns. It's a timeout to ask ourselves what we are doing, what we are manifesting, and if are we living our best life? Slow down, look at your life and where you are going and then redirect where needed. Thinking about how much things can change in the span of a moon cycle can be crazy, but life happens. The full moon energy gives us the opportunity to take stock of what has happened and let go of what is no longer needed. This works on the physical, mental, and spiritual planes.

So, let's discuss the upcoming Full Moon for January called the Full Wolf Moon. It is said the January full moon is named after howling wolves. You could include a wolf on your altar to honor that energy just because it is freaking cool. As I mentioned before, there will also be a lunar eclipse during this full moon and although we won't be able to see it, we will certainly feel it. Lunar eclipses increase the energy of a full moon and will cause us all to feel even more like getting rid of all the unwanted shit in our lives. I have a lot of clients that say 2020 has been off to a sluggish start. Well, hold on, because this lunar eclipse is going to help us all say goodbye to 2019 and the last decade. If the New Year didn't feel quite right, it's due to the fact that this full moon lunar eclipse was coming up to push us all forward.

If that is not enough, this full moon is in Cancer! The sign of Cancer is ruled by the moon. The Tarot card of Cancer is the Chariot, which is all about moving forward whether a person is ready or not. All of this makes this full moon the perfect storm for being shoved face-first into 2020 so enjoy the ride. It's about to get crazy. Cancer energy is awesome and will absolutely help us shed our old skin and get moving. This full moon may be very emotional for some of us too as Cancer is a water sign. We may be short-tempered or more sensitive than usual. We may feel things a bit more deeply than is normal but don't disregard your feelings. It's definitely the right time to take a hard look at our lives. The good news is that water flows and will aid in carrying us forward. Honor what you feel and then move on.

It is really, really important to use this full moon energy to release all of the things you have been holding onto from the past year and decade. No matter how you choose to do it, put some time and attention to it. The new year's energy is still with us so we can use both to focus on going forward. We can also use the Cancer energy to help us flow into the new seasons of our lives and to nurture ourselves during this very transitional period. You may consider taking a wonderful spell bath and meditating. Using water energy will help you be as fluid as possible and will allow you to honor your emotions.

Some great things to do during a full moon are:

Setting your crystals in the full moonlight to cleanse

Setting your decks of Tarot and Oracle cards in the moonlight to cleanse

Making moon water

Writing down things you wish to let go of and burning them

Doing a releasing spell or ritual

Setting up a cool full moon altar

Meditating

Journaling

Normally, full moons are a time to take a breather and take stock, so it may not be the ideal energy for starting something new or making big decisions. Sometimes things happen though and we have to move forward regardless of the moon cycle. If this happens to you, just ask the Universe for guidance and support.

I really enjoy using certain items for the full moon as you can see on my simple altar. Your altar can be as ornate or simple as you like. Just go with what feels good to you.

I've listed out some things below that may be beneficial for you or that you may like to try.

Crystals for the Full Wolf Moon in Cancer:

1. Moonstone-(obviously great for anything to do with the moon), but for this new moon especially as it helps promote emotional stability. We all need that with the full moon anyway and even more so since it is in Cancer.

2. Clear Quartz-to aid in releasing old energy

3. Rose Quartz-to honor the Cancer energy and help with self-love and nurturing

4. Selenite-to stabilize energy and emotions

*You can utilize your crystals during the full moon by placing them in your bath, setting up an altar with them, or simply carrying them with you. You may also want to create a beautiful crystal grid or use a pendulum made of one of these crystals for some full moon divinations.

Herbal Aids for the Full Wolf Moon in Cancer:

1. Sage-good for cleansing and releasing

2. Lavender-because it smells damn good and it also helps calm and soothe

3. Rosemary-helps with new beginnings

4. Calendula Flower-beautiful purification properties

*To use these herbs for the full moon, you can burn them, put them in your bath along with your crystals, drink them in a tea, or eat them. There is nothing wrong with making a delicious meal containing one or more of these herbs.

Tarot Cards for the Full Wolf Moon in Cancer:

1. The Moon-(again, obviously), this card signifies the ability to see things in a different light, secrets being revealed, and working with moon cycles.

2. The Chariot-to honor the Cancer full moon and to help us move forward

3. Death-to aid us in leaving what new longer suits us and move forward as a phoenix rising from the ashes

4. The Devil-we are in Capricorn season at the moment so it's good to work with the energy of this card. Don't be afraid of your dark side. The moon can help us love this part of ourselves.

5. Any card you feel a connection to or you can randomly draw cards or do a Full Moon Spread

*You can use your Tarot for the Full Moon by journaling about the cards, using them on your altar, doing a spread with the cards listed above as indicators, or by drawing or doodling them. The deck I'm using here is The Wild Unknown Tarot and it's brilliant!

Other items I've used:

A white candle for purification and moon water to enhance the effects of the altar.

This Full Moon is a great way to finally leave behind 2019 and move into 2020. Use it as a celebration of all you have learned and to rejoice in the beauty of letting things go. There is a simple satisfaction in taking a quiet moment to rid ourselves of all things that do not serve a purpose in our life. Mental, physical and spiritual clutter dampen our possibilities for joy and contentment. Use this Full Moon to clean up your spaces.

Wishing you endless possibilities this Full Moon!
