Ever wonder what exactly a black moon is? I will let you in on a little secret. No, it's not the first warning sign of the approaching apocalypse or some weird eclipse that happens once every 2 billion years. All that it means is that it's the second New Moon to happen in one calendar month. Disappointed? Don't be. There is some really cool energy that comes with a black moon. So, we had a New Moon on July 2nd and now we have another New Moon on July 31st. It's been a couple of years since we've seen a black moon so this is a great time to work some New Moon Magic. To add the the awesome energy of the New Black Moon, Mercury goes direct on July 31st as well, helping us all breath a big sigh of relief.
So what does this mean for you and how can you use this energy to your advantage?
Let's start with the benefits and energies that come with every New Moon. When the New Moon cycle begins, it marks a great time to wipe the slate clean, set your intentions, start new projects and plant new seeds. This same energy comes in with Mercury direct. When Mercury is in retrograde, you have to practice patience, hold off on major decisions and try to be flexible in your day to day life. That moment that Mercury goes direct, all that goes out the window and we want to charge forward, make decisions and do all the things. What will be spinning us even more out of control with all of this crazy energy is that the New Moon is in Leo and Mercury is in Cancer. Leo represents fire energy, ambition, and being in the spotlight while Cancer gives us a view into our home lives and relationships. In the Tarot, Leo is represented by the Strength card and Cancer is represented by the Chariot. Personally, I equate Cancer to the Moon card as well since the Moon is Cancer's ruling planet. How this all ties together is that this whirlwind of energy may leave some of you with your heads spinning and can also lead to rash decisions and impulsive actions. It will also be giving us insights into our home and family dynamics and what we want to change or cultivate. However, since we are still in the second shadow phase of Mercury Retrograde, we may not be able to charge forward as smoothly as we would like. Try to practice a little patience and restraint if possible. I know that is crazy advice after the retrograde and eclipse season we are all coming out of. The more patience you can practice though, the less complications you will create for yourself.
Instead of jumping ahead, use the New Moon energies to set your intentions clearly and plant those seeds you want to manifest. Remember, working with the energies around us will always be an easier path than going against them. Like I always tell my clients, there is no right or wrong way to work your personal magic as long as your intentions are good, so have fun with it.

-Candle Magic-because we are in Leo Season and the New Moon is in Leo, it's a perfect time to touch base with the element of Fire which can ignite our passions and burn away what is no longer useful
-Herbal Magic-plant an actual seed and put the energy of what you are manifesting into it.
